Sur Industrial City stands out as Oman’s largest industrial zone, covering 36 million square meters, with 23 million square meters available for rent. This strategic location aims to be a central point for precision manufacturing, nanotechnology, petrochemicals, and mining, aligning with Oman Vision 2040.<\/p>\n
As of mid-2020, the city hosted 127 projects, attracting investments totaling OMR2.3 billion. These projects have significantly contributed to employment, engaging 1,514 nationals out of 2,656 workers. The focus has been on sustainable and value-added initiatives, promoting the blue economy in Al Sharqiyah Governorate.<\/p>\n
Strategic Development at Sur Industrial City<\/h3>\n
Sur Industrial City has witnessed substantial growth from January 2022 to June 2023, with eight projects and OMR30 million investments. Notably, the city boasts an 8km waterfront overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman. Planned strategic projects include an international port, enhancing investment prospects and job opportunities.<\/p>\n
Continuous efforts to improve basic services are underway, with developments covering roads, water, and sewerage water networks. Initiatives include a sewerage water treatment plant (OMR950,000) and rainwater drainage improvements (OMR350,000). The Green Belt project (OMR250,000) emphasizes afforestation and environmental balance.<\/p>\n
Security and Future Opportunities<\/h3>\n
The city is actively implementing security measures, progressing through the first stage of the security system. Future plans involve surveillance cameras and a control room. Sur Industrial City is committed to enhancing the investment environment, preparing various opportunities for the private sector. These upcoming initiatives will offer support services and integrate the private sector into further development.<\/p>\n\n
The industrial area is also expected to contain a new shipyard complex as well as a labour township although around half of the workforce are Omani. The new city is in inline with the Oman Vision 2040 concept with a focus on new industrial innovation and knowledge based economy as the country moves away from oil & gas as main economic driving force.<\/p>\n\n
