Mactan Economic Zone II (MEZ II) is a substantial 63-hectare economic zone, registered under PEZA, accommodating a sizable workforce of 14,000 employees. Within this zone, a diverse ecosystem flourishes, hosting 49 distinct locators, 70 retail outlets, essential services, and a variety of dining establishments. The landscape also incorporates 18 spacious office areas and a bustling transportation hub.

MEZ II’s strategic vision extends towards future expansion, earmarking designated areas for the progressive growth of BPO centers, dormitories, and hotels. This calculated approach to development is steered by the collaboration between AboitizLand, Inc. and the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA).

Vital Connectivity: Mactan Economic Zone II

One of MEZ II’s notable strengths lies in its advantageous proximity to the Mactan Cebu International Airport, offering locators a range of benefits, including convenience and global connectivity. Positioned just 18 minutes (8km) away from the Cebu International Port, and a 30-minute journey from the Mactan-Ferry Terminal, MEZ II is positioned ideally for both local and international manufacturing enterprises.

MEZ II’s strategic location is further highlighted by its proximity to Cebu’s Major Business Districts, with a mere 13-minute drive (6km) to Mandaue City and a 30-minute commute (12km) to Cebu City. This accessibility fosters a conducive environment for businesses seeking to optimize their operations within Cebu’s economic landscape.

Infrastructure of Mactan Economic Zone II

MEZ II’s infrastructure is fortified by the reliable backing of the Aboitiz Group. These affiliates contribute expertise in construction, power generation, distribution, water production, and distribution, ensuring a resilient support system for the economic zone’s operations.

Showcasing Cebu’s diverse industrial ecosystem, MEZ II accommodates 48 locators representing various light to medium industries. With a collective workforce of 18,000 skilled individuals, the zone encompasses fields such as electronics, automotive supplies, medical equipment, hobbyist niches, Business Process Outsourcing, as well as home furnishings and garment industries. While predominantly hosting locators from Japan, the zone also fosters a diverse mix of US, European, and Taiwanese companies.

Government Collaboration: A Solid Partnership

An integral facet of MEZ II’s success is the fruitful partnership between the Government and AboitizLand, a prominent member of the Aboitiz group of companies. This collaboration underscores the zone’s foundation and enhances its operational efficiency.

PEZA, a key player in promoting economic zones, reports significant cumulative investments totaling P 275.1 billion from 640 locators within the Cebu province. The export prowess of the Cebu ecozones is underscored by an average annual export value of $5.9 billion, further consolidating Cebu’s stature as an economic powerhouse.

MEZ II’s tangible impact is also manifested in its contribution to local revenue. Locators on Mactan Island, including those within Mactan Economic Zone I and II, contribute significantly through tax payments, further bolstering the local economy.

Infrastructure Evolution

An indication of MEZ II’s evolution is the prospective development of the Lapu-Lapu Expressway (LLEX), aiming to establish a tunnel connecting MEZ II to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. This visionary project seeks to enhance connectivity and accessibility to the economic zone.

In 2022, a landmark partnership emerged as Abolitz Infrastructure Capital (AIC) aligned with an electric vehicle manufacturer to introduce new routes for low-emission COMET buses. This strategic move caters to the modern demands of sustainable transportation while fostering a dynamic environment within MEZ II.
