Saudi Arabia - مطار الملك عبد العزيز الدولي
King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is the main international airport of Saudi Arabia and a major cargo hub for the Middle East. It handles over three million tonnes of cargo per year, making it the 19th busiest airport in the world for cargo traffic.
KAIA’s cargo operations are carried out by a number of airlines and cargo handling companies, including:
ARABASCO – Arabian Aircraft Services Co. Ltd
Saudi Ground Services Company (SGS)
KAIA’s cargo terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including:
- Cold storage facility with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
- Dangerous goods warehouse.
- Customs inspection area
- Wide variety of loading and unloading equipment.
The cargo terminal is also connected to KAIA’s airside and landside operations by a dedicated cargo railway, which allows for efficient and timely movement of cargo between the terminal and aircraft.
Traffic growth at King Abdulaziz International Airport
Cargo traffic at KAIA is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, driven by the growth of the Saudi Arabian economy and the expansion of KAIA’s air cargo network. In order to accommodate this growth, KAIA is currently undergoing a major expansion of its cargo facilities. The expansion, which is due to be completed in 2025, will increase KAIA’s cargo capacity to 1 million tonnes per year.
King Abdulaziz International Airport as future growth engine
KAIA is a major cargo hub for the Middle East and is well-positioned to capitalize on the growth of air cargo traffic in the region. The airport’s state-of-the-art facilities and its strategic location on the Red Sea coast make it an attractive destination for cargo carriers.
A special terminal was constructed for this purpose which can handle 80,000 passengers at the same time.
