Dushanbe International Airport, also known as the Dushanbe Airport, is the primary international airport in Tajikistan‘s capital city, Dushanbe. The airport serves as a major gateway to the country, connecting it to various domestic and international destinations.

The airport is located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) south-east of the city center and covers an area of 3.25 square kilometers. It has a single runway that is 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) long and is capable of handling large commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747.

Somon Air –  the national air carrier of Tajikistan

Somon Air is the national air carrier of Tajikistan, which has been successfully operating on the international market since 2008 and is the only airline in the country that joined the IATA (International Air Transport Association).

International air transportation and charter flights are the main activities of the airline. The basic airport is the Dushanbe International Airport; the international airports of Khujand and Kulyab are additionally operated.

In the fleet of the airline, there are Boeing 737-300, -800 and -900 aircrafts. All of them have been named in honor of national heroes and historical figures of Tajikistan.

The maximum level of flight safety and high standards of service quality are the indisputable priorities for Somon Air.

The company is focused on sustainable growth, expansion of route network and airline’s fleet. Somon Air utilizes modern technologies in operation and is open to innovations.

To date, the airline has successfully operated regular flights from Tajikistan to 24 destinations, in particular to Germany, the UAE, Turkey, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation.

OUR HISTORY

Somon Air launched its first flight in February 2008 on the Dushanbe-Moscow route, operating a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

By mid-2009, the airline had already operated two Boeing 737-800 aircrafts. In 2009, Somon Air opened several new routes in addition to existing destinations – from Dushanbe to Frankfurt, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Istanbul, Orenburg, and from Khujand to Krasnoyarsk. Other new routes were opened in 2010: from Dushanbe to Almaty and Urumqi, and from Khujand to Yekaterinburg.

In 2011, the airline took delivery of its first new Boeing 737-900 aircraft from manufacturer and broadened its route map with flights Dushanbe-Krasnodar, Dushanbe-Kazan and Khujand-Kazan. In 2012, the airline opened flights from Khujand to Krasnodar and Sochi. In December 2012, Somon Air was awarded the “Brand of the Year” award.

In April 2013, Somon Air joined the IATA Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement (MITA), and in June, the IATA Clearing House.

In May 2015, the airline received the “High Technical On-Time Performance” award from the Boeing Company in recognition of the timely preparation of aircrafts for flight operations.

IATA Operational Safety Audit

On May 20, 2016 Somon Air accomplished probably the most significant achievement in its short history – successful completion of IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The ownership of the IOSA certificate brings the company to a new level in cooperation with partners, gives a guarantee of respect and trust.

On August 31, 2016 Somon Air introduced the flight from Dushanbe to Novosibirsk and return, and the next day – September 1 – a new flight Dushanbe-Sochi was opened.

In October 2018 the airline achieved another accomplishment – received an official permit from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to apply for individual rights on an ongoing basis to fly to the European Union, within and from the EU.

In 2016, Somon Air was granted a special prize from the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan for its contribution to the development of tourism in Tajikistan.

May 2017 was the point of time when the airline conformed the successful completion of the international operational safety audit according to the standards of International Air Transport Association (IATA), and received the enhanced IOSA certificate.

IATA Membership

The latest significant achievement in the history of the airline’s successes was membership in IATA. In September 2017, Somon Air was the first in Tajikistan, which officially joined the International Air Transport Association.

In October 2017, the airline began to operate flights on the route Kulyab-Moscow-Kulyab.

On August 6, 2018 Somon Air launched the flight on the route Dushanbe-Bukhara-Dushanbe.

Starting from September 2018, Somon Air has begun cooperation with the Russian Zhukovsky International Airport and opened flights on the routes Dushanbe-Moscow (Zhukovsky airport) and Khujand-Moscow (Zhukovsky airport).

From July1st, 2018 in honor of the Year of Tourism and Folk Crafts Development, Somon Air has started operating direct seasonal charter flights from Dushanbe to Antalya (Turkey).

On December, 29, 2018, for the first time in the history of Civil Aviation of Tajikistan, Somon Air has launched direct charter flights from Dushanbe to Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt).
