Senai International Airport, located in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia, has been a key aviation hub since its establishment in 1974. Originally operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, its management transitioned to Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn. Bhd. in November 2003. Situated strategically in Iskandar Malaysia, the airport holds a pivotal position near major port facilities, highways, and railway networks across Peninsular Malaysia.

Facilities and Infrastructure at Senai International Airport

Senai International Airport offers a range of facilities and infrastructure geared towards optimizing cargo handling and logistics. These include office and storage spaces, warehouses, perishable centers, and dangerous goods storage. The airport ensures seamless operations with one-stop government agencies, agents’ offices, truck parking areas, direct apron access, and 24-hour surveillance. The runway specifications and aircraft parking bays contribute to accommodating diverse aircraft, meeting industry standards.

Senai International Airport successfully completed an RM11.9 million expansion project, enhancing the terminal to accommodate five million tourists annually. The expansion, finished in August 2023, encompassed an additional building with departure gates, walkways, seating areas, and essential amenities. The project aimed to address the growing foot traffic, reaching five million passengers per annum. Aligned with SATSSB’s long-term vision, the newly expanded departure hall can be further upgraded, allowing flexibility for future enhancements and a target passenger capacity of seven million by 2030.

Senai International Airport: Role in Regional Connectivity

Senai International Airport, currently serving five airlines with domestic and ASEAN destinations, plays a pivotal role in regional connectivity. As part of Johor’s efforts to become the first developed state in Malaysia by 2030, the airport contributes to the region’s growth in tourism, medical tourism, business, and overall accessibility. With ongoing improvements and strategic positioning, Senai International Airport is poised to serve as a vital gateway for both domestic and international travelers, fostering economic and tourism development in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia.
