Malaysia - Taman Perindustrian Minyak & Gas Sipitang
Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) is a significant project initiated by the Sabah state government, strategically located within the Brunei and Labuan region, making it an ideal hub for the oil and gas business. With an expansive area size of 4,065 acres, including a beautiful seashore, SOGIP is designed to accommodate heavy industries, particularly those related to oil and gas, and is the first of its kind in Sabah for petrochemicals.
Location and Infrastructure at Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park
Situated in the Sipitang district, approximately 12 kilometers from Sipitang town and about 150 kilometers south of Kota Kinabalu city center, SOGIP enjoys a strategic location that is easily accessible. The integrated industrial park is designated for oil and gas-related activities, with ample land and sea space for oil and gas development. Notably, SOGIP boasts sufficient water depth, ranging from 16 to 25 meters, capable of accommodating Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) and vessel anchorage.
SOGIP has attracted significant investment from PETRONAS Chemicals Fertilizers Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB), which is spearheading the world-class Sabah Ammonia Urea plant (SAMUR) project within the industrial park. This project, with an estimated cost of RM 4.6 billion (USD 1.5 billion), aims to produce approximately 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of granulated urea, making it the largest single train granular urea facility in South East Asia. The collaboration between E.A. Gibson Shipbrokers Ltd and Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC) signifies a crucial step forward in realizing the envisioned developments at SOGIP, with a feasibility study for the proposed project currently underway. The Sabah Ammonia Urea plant (SAMUR) a PETRONAS project is currently under construction in SOGIP.
Future Development and Vision at Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park
SOGIP is poised to be the catalyst for the development of Sabah along the west coast, aligning with the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) for the oil and gas sector. The industrial park offers investment opportunities in petrochemical plants, bulk storage and refinery, fabrication, and support services such as electricity supply, water supply, and telecommunication. The collaboration with E.A. Gibson Shipbrokers Ltd and its global clientele is expected to unlock energy availability for domestic and international markets, positioning SOGIP as a key hub in the region.
Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) is a significant development that holds great promise for the oil and gas industry in Sabah, with a strong focus on petrochemicals and a vision to drive economic growth and create high-quality jobs in the state.
