Srihatta Economic Zone, spanning 352 acres in Sherpur Sadar Upazila, plays a crucial role in decentralizing industries and generating employment opportunities for approximately 44,000 people in the Sylhet division. The development work for the zone was initiated by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in February 2016. To ensure the provision of essential utilities, Jalalabad Gas Distribution Company Limited has commenced the construction of a gas pipeline, while BREB is constructing a 33/11 KVA power substation. Land development, electricity supply lines, and lake development are well underway, spearheaded by BEZA.
Investment proposals were invited for Srihatta Economic Zone in March 2017, with six entities already being allocated 231 acres of land. These companies have proposed investments totaling approximately 1.4 billion US dollars. The first wave of industries is scheduled to commence operations from December 2018.
Connectivity of Srihatta Economic Zone

Utilities at Srihatta Economic Zone
Electricity: Existing capacity of 20 MW provided by the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board.
A dedicated 33 KV power line will be drawn from the nearby 132 KV Grid Substation.
Telecommunication: Mobile connectivity available.
The Moulovibazar Telephone Exchange is located just 1 km away, with a fiber optic connection to the main exchange.
Water Supply: Surface water available within 1 km from the zone.
A 6 MLD water line will be installed to pipe water from the Kushiara River.
Occupants and Offsite Infrastructure Facilities
Shreehatta Economic Zone is currently occupied by four leading companies and one non-resident Bangladeshi industry, including DBL Group, Abdul Monem Ltd. Ceramics, Palmal Group, Great Wall Ceramics Ltd., and Double Glazing from the UK.
The zone boasts offsite infrastructure facilities such as access roads along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, completed site development works, a boundary wall, and an administration building. Additionally, a dedicated 33 KVA electric line will be established for unit investors.
The launch of Double Glazing Industries Limited, a door and window manufacturing company, in November 2022 has injected further momentum into Srihatta Economic Zone. The company, led by a female entrepreneur from the UK, will market heat-insulating and environmentally friendly products nationwide.
With the commencement of production in the special area of Sherpur, the economic zone not only benefits the people of Moulvibazar but also those in Habiganj and Sylhet districts. The authorities anticipate a stronger local economy as industrial establishments in the region, including Moulvibazar, begin operations.
