Srihatta Economic Zone, spanning 352 acres in Sherpur Sadar Upazila, plays a crucial role in decentralizing industries and generating employment opportunities for approximately 44,000 people in the Sylhet division. The development work for the zone was initiated by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in February 2016. To ensure the provision of essential utilities, Jalalabad Gas Distribution Company Limited has commenced the construction of a gas pipeline, while BREB is constructing a 33/11 KVA power substation. Land development, electricity supply lines, and lake development are well underway, spearheaded by BEZA.

Investment proposals were invited for Srihatta Economic Zone in March 2017, with six entities already being allocated 231 acres of land. These companies have proposed investments totaling approximately 1.4 billion US dollars. The first wave of industries is scheduled to commence operations from December 2018.

The zone boasts offsite infrastructure facilities such as access roads along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, completed site development works, a boundary wall, and an administration building. Additionally, a dedicated 33 KVA electric line will be established for unit investors.

The launch of Double Glazing Industries Limited, a door and window manufacturing company, in November 2022 has injected further momentum into Srihatta Economic Zone. The company, led by a female entrepreneur from the UK, will market heat-insulating and environmentally friendly products nationwide.

With the commencement of production in the special area of Sherpur, the economic zone not only benefits the people of Moulvibazar but also those in Habiganj and Sylhet districts. The authorities anticipate a stronger local economy as industrial establishments in the region, including Moulvibazar, begin operations.

Shreehatta Economic Zone’s strategic location, robust connectivity, and provision of essential utilities position it as a key driver of industrial growth in Bangladesh. The zone’s development is set to unlock economic potential, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall progress of the region.
