Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone will be the first specialized Government to Government economic zone with an existing area of 781 acres. It has the potential to meet all the necessary conditions to become a successful economic zone. Once the economic zone is established, it is expected that there will be a huge demand for industrial plots, from potential investors.

It will accommodate around 200 industrial units including textile, pharmaceuticals, electronics, garments, chemical, ship-building, agro-based, and Information Technology (IT).

The zone has access to water transportation. The site is suitable for export oriented industries due to proximity of largest sea port of Bangladesh at Chattogram (Chittagong). It is expected to create employment for 200,000.

China Harbour agreed a $100m investment in scheme and the Bangladeshi government allocated $50m. However a new developer has been announced after issues regarding China Harbour. China Road and Bridge Corporation or CRBC will be the new developer of CEIZ and will continue and expedite the development of CEIZ. According to BEZA, CEIZ has the potential to meet all the necessary conditions to become a successful economic zone. Once the economic zone is established, it is expected that there will be a huge demand for industrial plots, from potential investors.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority has  teamed up with a state-owned Chinese company to set up Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) at Chattogram’s Anwara upazila.

Around 783 acres of land has been acquired and the construction of a couple of linking roads along with other utility service work has already been done to establish the zone.
