Hamad Port, which opened at the end of 2016, is the now the largest port in Qatar. The port allows large container ships to dock where previously they were transferred from the United Arab Emirates to smaller vessels to dock in Doha Port.
Hamad Port is 40 kilometres south of the Qatari capital city of Doha. It comprises a port, a base for the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces and a canal for the planned Qatar Economic Zone 3, the project will span a 26.5-square-kilometer area.
