Hamad Port, which opened at the end of 2016, is the now the largest port in Qatar. The port allows large container ships to dock where previously they were transferred from the United Arab Emirates to smaller vessels to dock in Doha Port.
Hamad Port is 40 kilometres south of the Qatari capital city of Doha. It comprises a port, a base for the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces and a canal for the planned Qatar Economic Zone 3, the project will span a 26.5-square-kilometer area.
The project consists of specialized facilities for the processing, manufacturing and refining of rice, raw sugar and edible oils. These products will be available for local, regional and global use.
The port basin will be approximately 3.8km in length, 700m wide and 17m deep.
