Nepal - नेपालगञ्ज औद्योगिक क्षेत्र
Nepalgunj Industrial District, established in 1973, has played a crucial role in fostering industrial growth in the region. Spanning 11.8 hectares, the district boasts well-developed infrastructure, including lands, boundary walls, an electricity distribution network, drainage system, industrial sheds, and warehouses.
Current Scenario and Challenges in Nepalgunj Industrial District
As of now, the industrial district is home to 35 industries, with 30 of them in active operation. Chief of the Nepalgunj Industrial Area Management Office, Krishna Bahadur Pun, sheds light on the challenges faced by the office, citing a shortage of vacant land hindering the establishment of new industries. Despite the demand from industrialists, the lack of available land poses a significant hurdle for expansion.
The strategic location of the industrial area, nestled in the heart of the Nepalgunj market, offers security and convenience, making it an attractive choice for industrialists seeking to launch new ventures. Industries ranging from pipe manufacturing, plastic production, plywood, metalworking, to water-related activities contribute to the economic vibrancy of the region.
Industrial Expansion Beyond Nepalgunj: A Regional Perspective
While the Nepalgunj Industrial Area experiences constraints in land availability, the industrial landscape extends to Ganapur, situated in Ward No. 6 of the Janaki Village Municipality, connected to Nepalgunj. Secretary General of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chiranjeevi Oli, reports the presence of approximately 80 industries in this region, demonstrating a distributed growth pattern beyond the core industrial area.
Additionally, it’s noteworthy that Nepalgunj, a Sub-Metropolitan City in Banke District, Nepal, serves as a significant economic hub. Located on the Terai plains near the southern border with Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, India, Nepalgunj has seen territorial expansions over the years. The inclusion of former Village Development Committees and adjustments during local-level restructuring has contributed to its status as a vital industrial and commercial center.
