Queen Alia International Airport, situated 30 kilometers south of Amman, the capital city of Jordan, stands as the largest airport in the country. It pays tribute to Queen Alia, who tragically lost her life in a helicopter crash in 1977. Home to Royal Jordanian Airlines, the national flag carrier, the airport underwent a significant transformation in 2013 with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art terminal, replacing its older passenger and cargo terminals.

Currently servicing Queen Alia International Airport are 30 carriers, including prominent names such as Royal Jordanian and EgyptAir. The strategic location of the airport positions it as a crucial hub for both domestic and international flights.

In 2014, a milestone was achieved with the inauguration of the Air Cargo Facility Center, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Managed by the Jordan Airports Company (JAC), this center employs advanced inspection techniques to ensure the swift and secure processing of cargo passing through QAIA. Operating around the clock, the center guarantees expedited security scanning operations, completing merchandise checks in no more than 15 minutes under normal circumstances.

The RJ Cargo Hub at Queen Alia International Airport plays a pivotal role in expediting cargo processing. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, it ensures the efficient processing and tracking of shipments. The hub boasts reliable information systems, automated terminal storage operations, and a robust security apparatus, featuring guards, closed-circuit TV, and access control with 230 cameras strategically placed across warehouses and surrounding areas.

Among the specialized storage areas are cold storage for foodstuffs and vaccines, deep freeze storage for seafood and processed foods, climate-controlled facilities for the export of fresh produce, safe-room storage for valuables, and dedicated areas for dangerous goods, radioactive materials, human remains, and live animals.

As of September 12, 2023, plans are underway to expand the existing cargo facility at Queen Alia International Airport. This expansion, prompted by a surge in business, aims to accommodate the growing number of freight operators efficiently. The Minister of Public Works, Housing, and Transport, Ahmad Maher Abul Samen, emphasized the urgency of completing the project promptly to address crowding issues caused by heavy queuing at the current facility.

The airport’s handling agents, including Jordan International Air Cargo, Royal Wings, National Air Service, and JP Jet, play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless flow of cargo operations at Queen Alia International Airport.
