Zamyn-Uud Free Trade Zone

Zamyn-Uud Free Trade Zone is located in Zamyn-Uud border point town with China in the southern part of Mongolia. It is situated in 780 km from Ulaan Baatar, the capital city of Mongolia. It is just 8 km from Erlian town of China. The population of Zamyn-Uud is around 12,000. Although officially set up in 2004 limited activity has taken place so far although eventually with the development China’s Belt and Road Initiative the border town could see some future activity.

The aims for Zamyn-Uud Free Trade Zone to become main gateway of Mongolia to the Chinese and South-East Asian markets.

  • Water supply: Water treatment plant with capacity 3,200 cu. m
  • Free trade/bonded area: Whole area has free trade zone status
  • Tax incentives: Goods imported to FTZs are not subject to value added tax (VAT), customs and excise taxes. If goods are to be transferred from the customs territory to the FTZs, there will also be no such taxes on those goods and any previously paid taxes will be reimbursed accordingly based on related documents.
